Banyuwangi experienced a significant surge in tourists during the Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijri holiday. The Banyuwangi Regency Culture and Tourism Office recorded that 412 thousand tourists flooded various tourist destinations in Bumi Blambangan during the Eid holiday from March 28 to April 7, 2025. This number of visits has increased drastically by almost 300 percent compared to normal days.

Pulau Merah Beach is the favorite with more than 50 thousand tourist visits, followed by Boom Beach with 32,961 tourist visits. Other destinations that are no less crowded include Banyuwangi Park, Ijen Crater, Grand Watudodo, Jopuro Tourism, De Djawatan Forest, Tamansari Tourism Village, Cacalan Beach, Telunjung Raung Waterfall and Blimbingsari Beach.

This surge in tourists has had a positive impact on hotel and homestay occupancy rates. It was recorded that 44,660 tourists stayed in various types of accommodation in Banyuwangi during the same period. During that period, the hotel occupancy rate in Banyuwangi reached 85 percent. The data details show the diverse preferences of tourists towards the type of accommodation. A total of 22,400 people were recorded as staying in starred hotels, while budget hotels received 16,640 guests. No less popular than hotels, more than 5 thousand people stayed in homestays and 450 people stayed in boutique hotels.

The impact of this surge in tourists is the total turnover of money from tourist spending which reached a fantastic figure, namely IDR 55.7 billion during the ten-day Eid holiday. This figure comes from total tourist accommodation spending of 16 billion and tourist ticket purchases of 22.5 billion. Restaurant and stall turnover reached 14 billion. This shows the significant contribution of the tourism sector to the regional economy during the 2025 Eid holiday season. Not only that, souvenir centers in Banyuwangi also experienced a significant increase in turnover. From a number of MSMEs and souvenir centers in Banyuwangi, during this Eid holiday, they reaped a blessing of 3.2 billion.

Head of Banyuwangi Culture and Tourism Office, Taufik Rohman expressed his gratitude for the enthusiasm of tourists who chose Banyuwangi as a destination for the Eid holiday.

“We are very grateful for the trust of tourists. This spike is a motivation for us to continue to improve the quality of service and develop Banyuwangi’s tourism potential,” he said.

His party also appreciated the readiness of tourism actors, starting from destination managers, accommodation owners, to souvenir center managers, who have provided the best service to tourists. With this good record, it is hoped that the Banyuwangi tourism sector will continue to grow and provide an even greater contribution to the regional economy and community welfare.
