A new mode of sea transportation will soon link East Java and Bali through the launch of a high-speed ferry service from Banyuwangi to Denpasar. The service is expected to begin in June 2025 and is positioned as a practical and attractive alternative for travelers heading between the islands.

The East Java Provincial Government, together with the Banyuwangi Regency Government, has been actively preparing for this major transportation project. On Thursday, April 10, 2025, Deputy Regent Mujiono chaired a follow-up coordination meeting at the Banyuwangi government office. Acting Head of Marina Boom Port, Hari Yulianto, was also present.

This meeting followed an earlier inspection by East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa and Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani, who reviewed the facilities at Marina Boom in person to ensure readiness.

The ferry that will serve the route is around 40 meters long and 6 meters wide, with a capacity to accommodate 350 to 400 passengers per trip. A fare of IDR 200,000 per person is planned.

According to Deputy Regent Mujiono, the route is highly promising as it connects two prominent tourism areas that have gained attention both nationally and internationally. He reassured that all necessary preparations are being taken seriously.

Hari Yulianto explained that an initial sea route survey was carried out during Ramadan. A more detailed technical review will soon be conducted. From a legal standpoint, most permits and documentation have been finalized. The private company that will operate the ferry has also begun early-stage planning.

In addition to the ferry service, the East Java Government is planning to renovate the Marina Boom terminal. The upgrade will incorporate local cultural design elements that align with Banyuwangi’s identity, ensuring the terminal not only functions well but also serves as a gateway that proudly represents the region’s heritage.**
